{Your New Best Friend-Volumizing Mascara}

Your New BF-Mascara

We are back with another installment of “Your New Best Friend.” Let’s talk Mascara! Now we already discussed in this post on eyelash curlers how it’s best to coax your lashes up and away from your lenses. In this same vein, a lengthening mascara will not be your friend. So you want to look for a mascara that is volumizing and adds thickening to your lashes. One caveat to that statement, if you ARE using the eyelash curler like we suggested, you may still be able to use one that is created for lengthening. Try it out and let us know how it works for you!

One of our favorites is this one from Buxom. It gives us thick, gorgeous lashes and it’s our top pick. But not to rest on their laurels, Buxom has also created a Mascara Bar, exclusively at Sephora with 7 different brushes to choose from! This, kids is kind of genius! You can customize your lashes! We love the Thick&Defined and the Full&Fabulous on days when we wear our frames. We have also layered more than one mascara on. For example we use the DiorShow and then top that with Buxom. Because they have slightly different brushes, they create a more multidimensional look.

So get out there and play with some of these! Make those eyes pop behind those frames with thick, fluttery lashes! Wink, Wink.

{Your New Best Friend-Eye Cream}

Eye Cream

It is never too early to take care of the skin around your eyes. Those pesky little fine lines will creep up on you when you aren’t looking….TRUST ME ON THIS. I have earned every one of these lines with many years of laughter and big toothy grins but that does not mean I want to be besties with them. And I will kick them to curb as hard as I can with the help of these eye creams that we’ve gathered for you. Now, lest you think these are going to banish them forever let’s be clear here, this is not Botox but they will hydrate and nourish the skin and diminish the appearance while also making you feel pampered like a baby.

The Framed&Focused Top Pick for this group is the Olé Henriksen Ultimate Eye Lift with it’s roller ball application. The best is keeping this in the fridge so you get a double dose of cold and creamy. Great for tightening tired skin.

Tell us which eye cream is your favorite!

{Your New Best Friend-Eyelash Curler}

My sister made the statement a few weeks ago that she hates to wear sunglasses because her lashes are so long, they hit the lens. ( I wish I could insert a bug eyed emoticon right here) I know, tough problem to have right? But she’s right. I bet there are a lot of ladies out there who don’t put on mascara when they wear their glasses because of the exact same problem. Well, meet “You New Best Friend”-The Eyelash Curler.

I’m sure most of you are familiar with this medieval looking beauty tool but let me tell you how important it is to have in your arsenal. A little upward curl of the lash goes a long way. First it’s going to open up your eyes and make them look bigger. Second, it’s going to lift them up instead of out, so no more lash against the lens problem. This also means for those ladies with shorter lashes, you can use lengthening mascara to get those long lashes my sister brags about.

As you can see they come in an array of colors and shapes and sizes. There are even some that heat up for a better curl. Let us know if you’ve tried that! Our favorite so far is the compact travel curler. It tucks into our makeup bag and is easy to wrangle. Perfect for those bleary eyed mornings when we are trying to get to work.

{Your New Best Friend-Brow Stencils}

Brow Stencils

Ok Lovelies, let’s talk brows! I know a lot of you with frames struggle with how to do your makeup when you wear glasses. Can I wear the latest makeup trends? How do I apply makeup with my glasses on? How do I prevent my mascara from ending up on the inside of my frames? I’m sure there are more so please feel free to share.

We are going to be tackling some of those things in this new feature here on F&F. Meet “Your New Best Friend”……Brow Stencils. Groomed and beautifully shaped brows are one of the easiest ways to complement your glasses without competing with them. These stencils make it so easy to get a gorgeous shape with nary a thought. Just place them over your brow and fill in, using your favorite brow shadow or pencil. We will tell you more about those in a later post.

A number of companies make stencil kits and you can pick one close to your actual brow shape or get a little daring and create a whole new look.  So get grab one and PLAY! They come in a range of prices but our pick has to be the ELF Kit, because for $1, you can afford to experiment and have some fun!

PS-Gents, this doesn’t get you off the hook. Even if you’re not going to try the stencils, be sure to get your brows groomed when you get your hair cut. NO shaggy brows please.

{Your New Best Friend-The Sleep Mask}

Beauty Sleep

Nobody wants to have tired peepers. Not only do your eyes get red and blurry but your frames will accentuate every little line and make those blood shot orbs even more pronounced. One way to get plenty of rest is to use a sleep mask. Here in New York, there is a lot of light pollution. They don’t call it The City that Never Sleeps for nothing. A sleep mask can help block out all the extra light from your neighbors, so your brain knows it’s time to turn off. Even if you don’t live in a metropolitan city, they are quite comfy and can help ward off middle of the night wake ups when your significant other gets up to go to the loo and has to turn on the light. You can also use them when traveling, whether on the plane or if the hotel lacks Black Out Curtains.

They come in a myriad of colors and playful graphics as well as a great range of prices. Be sure to find one that is super soft, preferably a silk or satin that won’t scratch or irritate the skin around your eyes.  You can also choose between masks that lay directly on your eyes or ones with an eye cavity. I find the light pressure to my eyelids very soothing but it can be bothersome to others, so try them out and see which one works best for you.

Be sure to let me know what you think!
